A female student reported being sexually assaulted Monday night by a male who is not affiliated with the University, according to an NU security alert.

The assault happened between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the student's residence hall room after the two met at a Chicago Transit Authority 'L' stop, according to an e-mail alert that was sent out to the Northwestern community Monday night.

No detailed description of the offender was available at the time of the alert.

The Northwestern University Police Department is investigating the incident, according to an email from Alan Cubbage, Vice President of University Relations. This preliminary investigation shows that the student had previously exchanged messages with the offender via the web.

At this time, NUPD has determined that there is no threat or danger to the NU community.
