The Chicago Botanic Garden is an outdoor oasis just 10 miles from campus. Parking is $25 to $30 per car but admission is free, which is perfect for students who are only a $1.75 bus ride from the garden. The garden is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day until Nov. 1, when the park begins closing at 5 p.m.

The garden consists of almost 30 separate attractions including a bonsai collection, multiple greenhouses, a fruit and vegetable garden and a model railroad garden. In addition to these everyday charms, the garden holds workshops and classes for adults, youth, children and families on topics including cooking, gardening and wellness.

All this makes the Chicago Botanical Garden a great place for amateur gardeners, nature enthusiasts or just any student who needs a peaceful escape.
