Launching our 1995 Twitter project
By ,

Twenty years ago today, Northwestern’s Asian American Advisory Board began a hunger strike protesting the administration’s failure to respond to its proposal for an Asian American Studies program. After 23 days, the strike ended with a promise from the administration to offer four Asian American Studies courses in the 1995-1996 academic year.

In preparation for a larger story launching on the 20th anniversary at the end of the strike on May 4, NBN will be tweeting events from the strike as they happened 20 years ago, starting with the initial protest and rally on April 12. Follow our Twitter, @NUin1995, and learn more the history of the Asian American Studies department and student activism at Northwestern.
