For many women on campus, Week Two means it’s the end of Winter Recruitment. For some School of Communications students, it means auditions for winter shows are starting. And for us culture vultures who read and write the Entertainment section, it means entertainment events are far and few between. Here are a few to hold you over till next week.
Chicago spotlight: President Barack Obama’s farewell address
A political rally isn’t traditionally entertainment, but the president who The Atlantic has dubbed "comedian in chief" has definitely changed that. Let’s just hope you scored a ticket after waiting for hours in the cold Saturday morning. 5 p.m., McCormick Place. Sold out.
Graffoniks in 3D
The third collaboration between Graffiti Dancers and Tonik Tap, Graffoniks in 3D is what it sounds like – a 3D dance show. What more could you want? 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., Jones Great Room. Also Jan. 14. $5.
The Dover Quartet is Bienen’s current quartet in residence, meaning the group plays a show each quarter and teaches Bienen students. This quarter’s show is part of the Winter Chamber Music Festival and includes a piece by Haydn. 7:30 p.m., Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. $10 with student ID.
This may not be a Northwestern event, but NU is integral to alternative rock band August Hotel – guitarist-vocalist Ryan Lammers is a Comm senior, and the band has played Dance Marathon twice. The band’s headlining show features Ember Oceans and Beach Bunny as well. 7 p.m., SPACE. $10.
