Week in review April 22: Detainment, defacing and dinero

    Medill alum held captive in Libya
    More than two weeks ago, Medill alum James Foley was captured in Libya by forces loyal to Muammar Gadhafi. While Foley is still being detained, Northwestern has responded by promising to utilize social media and hang “Free Foley” posters around campus in support of the captured journalist.     Not only is it offensive, the hutts didn’t even guard it all night
    A message appeared on the Rock Sunday saying “JABBA SUPPORTS BLACKFACE” in gold paint. To make matters worse, the painting was done right before Wildcat Days. The Rock was repainted by the Residential College Board, and NUPD investigated the incident. We’ve got the whole story right here.

    A&O Productions is partnering with For Members Only to bring hip-hop duo Clipse to campus on April 29. Tickets, which are $5 for undergraduates, can be bought online April 22 through the Norris Box Office. We’ve got everything you need to know here.

    The donation was earmarked exclusively for sex toy demonstrations
    Northwestern University gave a $120,000 gift to Foundation 65, the educational foundation for Evanston/Skokie School District 65. The donation will be disbursed over a three year period. Evanston Now has the whole thing here.

    After mix-up with Mayfest, Álvaro Uribe ends up headlining Dillo Day
    Amidst protests, former president of Colombia Álvaro Uribe spoke at Owen L. Coon Forum Monday night. Uribe emphasized democracy and security, though protesters spoke out by handing out literature and donning clown noses. We’ve got the full story right here.
