When Eikenberry came to town
By

Recently, the Buffett Institute for Global Studies appointed Karl Eikenberry, a former U.S. Army lieutenant general and ambassador to Afghanistan, as its executive director. There has been much controversy over this decision, specifically in regards to how the Provost Dan Linzer has handled largely negative faculty feedback about Eikenberry. In a letter to The Daily Northwestern submitted by 40 faculty members, the consensus seems to be that he values certain academic subjects as instruments to “advance U.S. soft power” rather than for their “intrinsic worth.”
