The Rock got a new layer of purple on Thursday night when it was painted by the student fan organization Wildside to get students excited for Saturday's homecoming football game.
Wildside, which is the official student cheering section for Northwestern athletics, painted "Beat Michigan" along the wall in front of the rock in preparation for the first home game of the academic year. The 'Cats beat Eastern Illinois in Evanston in early September.
"Wildside is really great, because it encourages kids to be passionate about Northwestern and get involved in the Northwestern community," said Weinberg Junior Alex Wilcox, who helped paint the Rock. "We try to do promotions and advertising to make sure all the stands are filled at the game."
