8 things every freshman should do before June
Beyond the standbys of going to the Keg and to football games, here are some must-do activities for every Wildcat’s first year.
Your body on DM: The bodily breakdown on your aerobic all-nighter
Pulling an all-nighter is rough enough. But dancing for 30 hours after waking up on March 6th before Dance Marathon starts? Deathly. Just imagining it will make you tired. Skipping shut-eye can not only make you drowsy, but screw you up in other ways:
Hour 10: Your Memory
Leave Reading Week studying until after DM. A [...]
Meeting the kids of Project Kindle
A DM dancer’s dedication is renewed after meeting the beneficiary children.
A tough journey to a tougher run: A student’s marathon

Stop obsessing over your guilty pleasures. They’re your constitutional right.
Dance Marathon music preview: Block 10
And here we are, the last and best block of Dance Marathon. Somehow, dancers reawake, all the hours of zombie-like movement gone as they go crazier than a bunch of Medill kids after seeing a misspelling. People expect “Can’t Touch This,” “Mambo Number 5″ and “Who Let the Dogs Out?” None of these songs are good – there is a reason these groups became one-hit wonders. [...]
To endings and new beginnings
We throw out the old and usher in the new this Week in Review.
Dance Marathon music preview: Block 8
What a risky choice for a block them. Dubbed “I Will Survive” (presented by…Kaplan?), block 8 plays music involding disco or divas. Bold, since disco sits up their with “rap” and “country” as one of the most hated genres of music in the world. The only risk here though is alienating dancers [...]
Dance Marathon music preview: Block 7
Ahhh, sometimes you have to love DM’s block themes. Block 7 (hosted by everyone’s favorite chain Applebees!) promotes “80’s and Oldschool Hip Hop.” The two, which are sort of oddly jammed together since 80’s would not fence in some of the more popular rap tunes other blocks can’t nab. Mainly, I feel [...]
