All-Gender Housing North vs. South Campus ADA Accessibility Hall vs. College
All-gender housing is a residence option in which students can share a room or suite regardless of their gender identity. Ten dorms on campus offer all-gender housing, which is usually a cluster of all-gender designated rooms on a certain wing or floor. Our information lists the all-gender housing options according to Residential Services. Students will only be placed in an all-gender wing or suite if they opt-in, so students who do not opt-in will not be assigned to an all-gender wing or suite. For transparency's sake, we want to acknowledge that not all students have had positive experiences with all-gender housing. The Daily Northwestern discusses this issue in more detail.

Residential Services' all-gender housing page
Generally, South Campus is known for the humanities, and North Campus is known for STEM, mostly due to distance from classes. Historically, North Campus has had more of a party reputation for its proximity to fraternity quad, while South Campus has more of an artsy vibe and is a shorter walk to downtown Evanston. If you want to live in a suite, look to the several dorms on North Campus, but beware of the walk south to downtown and classes in the winter. We divided North and South Campus classifications based on their location north or south of Foster Street. Although Residential Services says that several dorms on campus have elevators, not all dorms are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Students have reported issues with accessibility for specific dorms, which we have noted on that dorm’s individual page. We do not have complete information on which residences have ADA accessible rooms, but we have noted that information for dorms that we know do have them. We will update this guide if we get more information. Northwestern has residential colleges and residential halls. Residential colleges have organized programming, with multiple events happening each week depending on the dorm. Some residential colleges are thematic and can help you find like-minded people on campus, but even non-thematic residential colleges can encourage community through munchies, social activities and events. A residential hall is basically a normal dorm.
