Stargazing

Stargazing

If I were to look up at the sky,
My eyes gazing into
An ever-expanding blanket of midnight:
Indigo with sparkles of rich gold,
Would your face be drawn into this blue too?

Our feet stand cities and worlds apart,
Our bodies face different waters:
You over an ocean and I
Over a lake.
We were once connected
Until the distance between us grew
When I left home
And you stayed.

The darkness,
The unknown of tonight, blazes
Extra clear and extra bright.
If I were to look up at the sky
Maybe your reflection would stare back,
My eyes peering into your ocean and yours
Into my lake.
But our skies stay the same.
